NOVA (Narrative Open-license for Versatile Adventures) is a system-agnostic open license for tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) and narrative-driven game content. Its purpose is to empower creators to build upon existing material while safeguarding the integrity of original works and ensuring ethical practices—particularly by banning generative AI content.

🔒 Protection of Original Material:
Original content released under NOVA (such as lore, characters, species, and settings) remains the intellectual property of its creator and may not be altered or claimed by others without explicit permission.

🛠️ Permitted Derivative Works:
Creators can design and sell derivative products—such as rule supplements, adventures, and custom settings—if the following conditions are met:

• Attribution is clearly given to the original work and its author.

• A visible disclaimer states that the new work is unofficial.

• No generative AI content is used in any form.

🔁 Optional Sub-Licensing:
Sections of a NOVA-licensed work (like SRDs or toolkits) may also be released under other licenses (e.g., Creative Commons) as long as such sections are clearly labeled and the terms are not in conflict with NOVA’s core conditions.

⚖️ Reserved Rights:
The original author retains all commercial and creative rights over their worldbuilding content—such as settings, species, characters, and narrative mechanics—unless explicitly released for public use.
